COLUMBIA – A funeral service for Hilda Harrison Render, 70, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2017, at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The casket will be placed in the church at 10:00 a.m. for viewing prior to the service. The family will receive friends following the burial in the church fellowship hall. Hilda died Thursday, June 8, 2017, at Palmetto Baptist Hospital. Born in Columbia, she was the daughter of the late David Anderson and Lelye Rose Harrison. She graduated from Columbia High School in 1964 where she met her husband of 46 years. After graduating from high school she was employed by Travelers Insurance Company for a short time before the birth of her daughter. Throughout the years she spent countless hours volunteering at her daughter’s schools and at her church where she held many leadership positions and was named Asbury Methodist Woman of the year in 2014. She had a great compassion for animals and often helped neighbors by taking care of their pets. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Surviving are her daughter, Susan Render Johnson (Kevin) of Mt. Pleasant; grandsons, Graham, Rowan and Oliver Johnson of Mt. Pleasant; sister, Virginia H. Woods of Isle of Palms; brother-in-law, Capt. Ronald W. Render (Lynn), U.S. Navy (Ret.) of San Diego, CA.; sister-in-law Angela M. Render of Columbia; sister-in-law, Patricia R. Crosby of Irmo; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard and her brother-in-laws, Robert N. Render and James. A. Woods.
