
Joseph Gene Raymond, 77, of Gadsden, South Carolina, after a nearly three-year battle with cancer, passed away on November 24, 2024. He was born on July 20, 1947, in Columbia, SC. Gene was a dedicated and passionate individual who touched the lives of many.
Gene’s educational journey began at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Cardinal Newman High School and Fork Union Military Academy. He furthered his education at Belmont Abbey College. Gene’s commitment to serving his country led him to serve in the SC Air National Guard.
Throughout his career, Gene held various positions, including technician at McEntire Air National Guard Base, Executive Director of the National Federation of Federal Employees in Washington, D.C., Vice President with CNA Insurance Company in Rockville, Maryland, and Subrogation Unit Manager with the Law Firm of Gordon and Barnett in Washington, D.C.
Gene was a practicing Catholic and a devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church for the last 15 years. He found solace and strength in his faith.
Gene is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Tom Raymond Jr. and Cyndy, and his sister and brother-in-law, Rose Ann Stevens and Stuart of Dublin, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Raymond Sr., his mother, Mary Galardi Raymond, and his brother, Anthony Raymond.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Gene’s medical care providers, including Dr. Robert J. Collins, Dr. Leonid Zamdborg, nurses Julie, Mary, June, and Misty, and the entire support staff.
A Memorial Mass for Gene Raymond will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Columbia, S.C., with visitation following. Burial will follow in the church memorial gardens.

Gene’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, He will be deeply missed, but his legacy of dedication, kindness, and faith will continue to inspire us all.
