

LUGOFF - A funeral service for Jack Harold Cox, Sr., 87, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens, with full military rites. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mr. Cox died Monday, April 11, 2016. Born in Readington Township, New Jersey, he was a son of Franklin Irving Cox and Sarah Arlene Mahoney Cox. He served as Senior Chief Yeoman in the U.S. Navy during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. In 1964, he participated in Operation Sea Orbit, the worlds’ first all nuclear powered Navy task group that sailed around the world to demonstrate the strategic mobility of the U.S. Navy’s nuclear powered surface forces. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as General Manager of Hospital Data Center. Mr. Cox was a member of American Legion Post 195, past president and lifetime member of Palmetto Health Volunteer Auxiliary, member and past president of Mended Hearts Chapter #71 of Palmetto Health Richland Auxiliary and past chairman of the SC Association of Hospital Auxiliaries (SCAHA) Midlands District. Surviving are his sons, Jack Cox, Jr. of Lugoff and David Waters of Atlanta, GA.; daughter, JoAnn Burnside (Mike) of Columbia; brothers, Alan Cox of San Antonio, Texas and Donald Cox of Jupiter, FL; grandchildren, Taj Reid (Charles) of Columbia, Michael Burnside (Lindsey) of Columbia, Jennifer Anthos (Michael) of Nashville, TN; and great-grandchildren, Callie, Emily, Lilly, Russsell, Hannah and Nathan of Columbia and Olivia of Nashville, TN. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Martha Cox and sons, Ronald Waters and Roland Mark Cox. The family wishes to thank all staff and caregivers who took special care of him.
