A native of Columbia, Jackie was born August 14, 1935 the daughter of Edwin Otis and Cora Lee Player. She grew up in the Olympia Mill Hill area and was a member of the 1953 graduating class at Olympia High School. Her love for God, family, and her friends defined who she was. She was an active member of Greenlawn Baptist Church where she served on many committees, including Deacon. Jackie loved the beach and shagging on the boardwalk which eventually led to her induction into the SC Shaggers Wall of Fame. She also enjoyed babysitting for families throughout the Columbia area and supporting her grandchildren in their many activities. You could often find her cheering for her Clemson Tigers, having “her hair fixed”, or shopping at Chico’s.

She was predeceased by her parents, Edwin Otis Player, Cora Lee Player and her niece, Karen Peake Dill. Survivors include her daughter, Terri Reed (Doc); two grandchildren, Houston Reed and Rollins Reed; sister, Lois Peake; a brother, Eddie Player (Carol); a brother and sister-in-law, Gordon and Barbara Houston; three nephews, John Peake, Barry Peake (Kathy), Darrin Player (Lisa); and a niece, Angie Lopez (Jeff).

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Lexington Medical Center for their thoughtful and compassionate care.

Jackie, we have known each other for almost 40 years and I cannot believe I will not see your smiling face again. You were someone I looked up to for your devotion to your faith and for the way you applied that to your life Your were a person of standards and value but your sense of humor and love of fun was just as prevalent. I will always remember the fun and happiness we shared at the beach at the "SOS" I love you.....

My heart goes out to Jackie’s family. Jackie and I were both members of Columbia Shag Club and members of SC Shaggers Hall of Fame. I had the pleasure of working with her on several committees over the years. Jackie was a very special friend, always greeted you with her beautiful smile and a hug and she was always so much fun. We have lost a sweet friend but heaven has gained an angel. Prayers of comfort to the family. Margaret Fabrizio

My heart is breaking for the passing of Jackie. Terri and family, I know this is a very sad time for you. To know Jackie was to love her. She kept my oldest granddaughter, Bre, for a few years and she loved her too.
I know that she is with our Heavenly Father where you, too, will be one day. My thoughts, love and prayers are with you. I will always remember her with love.

Jackie was my friend and I miss her. This past Sunday morning the Greenlawn Baptist Choir sang a version of "When We All Get to Heaven" and as I sang, with tears in my eyes, I could not help but imagine Jackie as she arrived in Heaven, greeting everyone with a hug and a smile as she did while here on earth.
