James Michael Toman

James Michael "Jim" Toman, 64, of Monroeville, Pennsylvania, passed away at home, surrounded by his loved ones, on August 4th, 2026, after a courageous and hard-fought battle with glioblastoma. Son of the late Charles J. and Frances M. Toman, loving father of Caroline (David) Lammon, Charles “Charlie Mac” Toman, and Kendall “Tucker” Toman, and cherished brother of Charles J. (Matilde) Toman II, Carol Ann (Ramon) Paracat, Thomas "Buffo" (Nancy Lynne) Toman, Mary (Ted) Frala, John (Patsy) Toman, and Nancy (Julian) Morrison.

Jim captained his baseball and football teams at Gateway Senior High School in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, where he graduated in 1980. Jim continued his baseball career on an athletic scholarship at North Carolina State University, where he was captain of his team and earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree. Jim devoted over 35 years to coaching NCAA Division I baseball. He coached at Florida International University, North Carolina State University, the University of South Carolina, Liberty University, the College of Charleston, and Middle Tennessee State University, and recorded over 400 career wins as a head coach. Above all else, Jim will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his passion for the game of baseball, and the many lives he impacted as a coach, mentor, and friend.

A visitation will be held on August 13th, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and a funeral service will be held on August 14th, 2026, at 1:00 p.m., both at Dunbar Funeral Home (3926 Devine Street, Columbia, South Carolina, 29205). A private burial will follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery in Monroeville, Pennsylvania.
