

COLUMBIA - Jan Williams Mckellar died October 3, 2023. Born in Charlotte, NC on March 7, 1949, she grew up in Mt. Holly, NC. Jan was very active in high school. She was a majorette, and played on the tennis team, and Basketball team. Jan was inducted in the Gaston County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2013. In her senior year, her basketball team won more games than any sport in Mt Holly High School history.
Jan then graduated from Columbia College, and her C (sq) friends have remained close all these years and get together for a weekend every summer. After college, she taught school for a year before becoming a flight attendant for Delta Airlines. She was able to get the base of her choice and lived in the Garden District in New Orleans.
She married Jack Maynard, and moved back to Columbia. Jack is the father of her daughter Amanda "Mandi" Maynard Coury. She began working for Speaker Sol Blatt as his administrative Assistant. She worked for him until his death. The years spent working for Mr. Blatt were some of the best years of her life.
In 1987 she became the lobbyist for the SC Medical Association. She worked there for 20 years retiring as Vice President of Governmental Affairs. Upon retirement from the SC Medical Association, she did contract lobbying for Takeda Pharmaceuticals and LifePoint (SC Organ Procurement Association).
Jan married Henry Mckellar in 1989. They enjoyed a wonderful life. They had great times at their home in Wild Dunes, especially after her daughter Mandi, her husband Chuck and granddaughter Stella moved to Charleston! Stella is the most precious little girl, and the light of her life.
Surviving are her husband, Henry Mckellar; her daughter and her husband, Mandi and Chuck Coury; granddaughter, Stella Coury; sister, Lynne (Richard) Jessen; brother, Mark (Kathy) Williams; and many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her parents, Gloria Derr Williams and JC Williams, and Charlie Jessen.
