COLUMBIA Jane Carolyn Moorefield, daughter of the late Charles Henry and Ruth Ella Watkins Moorefield died Saturday, August 13, 2022. Miss Moorefield was born in Columbia on August 18, 1930. She attended Columbia City Schools. She graduated from Sweet Briar College and received her Master’s Degree in Chemistry from USC. She was a Chemist for the South Carolina Highway Dept. (now SC DOT) for 35 years.
Jane was a lifetime member of Trinity Cathedral where she was a former Sunday school teacher and member of the vestry. She was active in the Daughters of the Holy Cross and was a member of the Pastoral Care Ministry and served on the Altar Guild. She was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Columbia, a member of the National Society of Colonial Dames in the State of South Carolina, the Ann Pamela Cunningham Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Columbia Garden Club. She was a long-time volunteer at Richland Memorial Hospital and was also a member of Forest Lake Club and several book clubs. Miss Moorefield loved to read, play golf and bridge.
She is survived by two nieces and five nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by her parents and her two older brothers, Charles H. and John Elfreth “Ebbie” Moorefield.
There will be a private graveside service in Elmwood Cemetery. A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
