

COLUMBIA - Mr. Jeffrey Randall “Randy” Strange died Sunday, September 27, 2026. Born in Vincennes, Indiana, he was the son of the late Carl Bernard Strange, Sr. and Maxine Elizabeth Vandever Strange. He spent his life serving his community.
He graduated from AC Flora High school. He attended the University of South Carolina. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War as a Mechanic working on Chinook helicopters. He retired from Bellsouth (now ATT) as a Graphic Artist. He was the Artist who drew the portraits (120+ portraits) for the first 10 years of the African American History Calendar series, (Now part of SC ETV). He assisted his partner, Walter O’Rourke at Town Theater as Scenic Artist/Master Carpenter before joining him at Workshop Theater in 1985. He spent over 27 years as a volunteer for Workshop Theater as Scenic Artist/Master Carpenter taking over as Designer/Technical Director in 2007 and serving until 2012.
Randy loved anything Disney. He collected all types of Disney collectables. He would hide a Micky symbol within the art of every theater set he painted. His favorite holiday was Christmas. During the last year of his life, he kept a Christmas tree decorated in his assisted living apartment. He built an elaborate multilevel Christmas Village with trains covering one quarter of the Great Room of his home. He was also a big fan of Public Radio and Public Television. He always had Educational Radio playing in the theater when he was working.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his partner Walter P. O’Rourke, Jr., his sister, Carlene Sue Strange Tucker and brothers Larry E. Strange and Carl Edward Strange.
The family wishes to thank his neighborhood family/friends who helped him stay in his home for as long as possible. The family would also like to thank the Staff of Vitality Living of Columbia for providing loving assistance during his final year.

A graveside service for Jeffrey Randall Strange, 79, will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 16th, 2026, in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. A reception will be from 6 to 8 PM on October 15th, 2026, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
