Jerry Holt Stone passed away peacefully following a long illness on March 12, 2026 in Lexington, SC. He was born in Mullins, SC on August 8, 1938 to William and Wilma Stone. As young child, the family relocated to St. Matthews, SC. They were members of St. Paul United Methodist Church. Jerry graduated from St. Matthews High School. He attended the University of South Carolina where he played baseball and basketball. After earning his business degree there, Jerry joined the Air National Guard and served seven years. During that time, he was deployed to Spain during the Berlin Crisis. Upon returning to the United States, he married Janie Hane on July 31, 1964.
After establishing their home in Columbia, the couple joined Westminster Presbyterian Church and raised their family. Jerry served numerous years as a Sunday School teacher, deacon and elder. Professionally, he was a pharmaceutical representative for Ayerst Laboratories and later Wyeth Ayerst. He retired from there after thirty-six years of service. He and Janie enjoyed traveling, spending time at their beach house in Edisto, SC and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Janie; daughter Sherrie Phillips (John), and son Greg Stone of Columbia, SC. He is also survived by two grandsons, Stone Phillips of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Ryan Phillips of Severne, MD. He also has a brother, Scott Stone (Elizabeth) of North Carolina, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brothers William Stone, Herbert Stone, Charles Stone, and his sister Joann Strock.
Services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church on March 20 at 11:30 a.m. with visitation following the service. Memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.
