COLUMBIA - Elizabeth Joan (Joanie) Loquist, 43, passed away on May 23, 2016 after more than 7 years battling breast cancer. Born in Columbia on October 10, 1972, she was the daughter of Russell (Bo) and Ann Shetterly. She was married to Brian Loquist for 19 years. Together Brian and she parented three sons, Noah Brice, 16, Samuel Jesse, 14 and Griffith John, 7. She was a 1995 graduate of Winthrop University and a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority (Pi Delta Chapter) and served as its President. Her sisters in her sorority remain close friends. She began her career in hospital work at Richland Memorial Hospital. In 2003 Price Waterhouse Cooper hired her in its new Columbia office. As Growth and Development Coordinator for Price Waterhouse Cooper, Joanie played an integral role in the success of the Virtual Business Office and was always appreciative of their continuing support during her entire fight with cancer. In addition to her husband and sons she is survived by her parents and her two sisters Barbara Ann Mowery (Brian), Krista Parrott (Talley) and brother Michael Shetterly (Suzanne), 9 nieces and nephews and her mother and father-in-law Renatta and John (Steve) Loquist. Joanie enjoyed a large extended family including almost 20 Uncles, Aunts and Cousins by blood and by marriage. She will be remembered for her contagious laugh, beautiful smile and engaging personality and her grace. She had the ability to make everyone feel special and her presence was always welcome no matter what the occasion. During her far too short life, Joanie was compassionate, loyal, and supportive of her family; assisted her fellow workers, supported and uplifted the spirits of co-workers family and friends. Her love and support was repaid by all who knew her during her time of need. Joanie leaves this life with no grudges and no unsettled issues. She was incapable of making enemies and never kept score. Now we can see why God would need her so soon, but selfishly wish she could have stayed in this life a while longer to serve as an example to others. Assisting her in her efforts to fight cancer were Dr. M.A. Ackerman, Gretchen Byres, SCOA, the 8th Floor staff Palmetto Baptist and the thoughts and prayers of countless friends and supporters. For "Now abideth Faith, Hope and Love, these three: but the greatest of these is Love." (1 Corinthians 13:13). Joanie gave her love unselfishly and received much love in return. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Columbia at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016. Entombment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. . The family will greet friends from 6:00–8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Dunbar Funeral Home Devine Street Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to: Tri-Sigma Foundation, 225 North Muhlenberg Street, Woodstock, VA 22664 (www.trisigmafoundation.org) or Dr. Susan Love Research, 16133 Ventura Blvd., #1000, Encino, CA 91436 (www.drsusanloveresearch.org).
