

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for John William Hornsby, Jr., 84, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2016, at the funeral home. Mr. Hornsby died Friday, January 29, 2016. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late John William Hornsby and Eloise Elizabeth Best Hornsby. Mr. Hornsby was a graduate of Dreher High School and Columbia Business College. He served in the U.S. Air Force four years during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Earlewood Masonic Lodge, a long-time member of Suber Marshall United Methodist Church and an active member of the Rosewood Community for many years. Surviving are his sons, John William Hornsby, III (Laura) of Charleston and Danny Hornsby (Amy) of Columbia; grandchildren, Jack Hornsby, Luke Hornsby and Erin Hornsby; and brothers, Robert Hornsby (Eleanor) of Garden City, Thomas E. Hornsby and Richard Hornsby (Marilyn), all of Lexington. He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Evelyn Estell Polson Hornsby.
