Karen Gail Loflen of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2026, at the age of 72. She was born in Columbia on November 20, 1953, to Lester Albert “Buck” Loflen and Kathryn “Kay” Parker Loflen.
After graduating from Keenan High School and the University of South Carolina, Karen began her career in business before discovering her true passion in massage therapy. She was a kind and loving woman with a wonderful sense of humor, and a spirit all her own. Karen had a gift for making people laugh. Her infectious laughter could brighten the darkest of days.
Karen leaves behind many cousins who loved her as she was and were there when she needed anything. She had an extraordinary circle of cherished friends whose bond has endured for more than 40 years. Much like the beloved film The Big Chill, theirs was a friendship built on decades of shared experiences, unforgettable stories, laughter, tears, and unwavering loyalty. Though Karen never had children of her own, she never lacked family. She embraced the children of her cousins and closest friends as her own, loving them, watching them grow, and holding a special place in their lives. Her family was not simply defined by blood, but by the love she gave and the relationships she treasured.
Karen's passing leaves an empty place in that circle, but the friendships she cherished and the memories they created will live on.
She will be remembered for her spirit, her quick wit, and the love she gave so freely.
And somewhere, in the middle of a wonderful memory or a familiar story, Karen's laughter will be heard again — in the hearts of those who loved her.
