Born in Richmond Hill, New York, she was the daughter of the late Harold Arthur McKeeby and Victoria Michaels McKeeby.
Kathy Coats, or Mrs. C to many, spent her life caring for and doing for everybody. As a mom, scout leader, church member, school parent and employee. She spent the 70's at Cardinal Newman High School as the right hand of principle Harold Bayeryl and protector of all students therein. The 80s she spent as the Admin for the Radiology Department at Richland Memorial Hospital and EA to the Chief of Radiology, Dr. Robert Waldron. She helped opened and managed the first MRI center with that group and then went on to run the orthopaedic office of Dr. Jim McHone.
Most of the last 2 decades were spent living in NY in her childhood hometown of Lynbrook, NY, with her daughter who brought her back to SC in 2018 to be close to family and her other true loves - her grand and great grand children - a role she embraced and loved and to her final days brought out her biggest smiles.
She is survived by her son Garry O. Coats (Renee) of Winnsboro, SC; her daughter, Leslie C. Jacob of Columbia, SC; son Steven A. Coats of Aiken, SC; grandchildren, Nicholas Haygood (Jessica), Max Jacob, and Samantha Philyaw Banks (Marcus); and four great-grandchildren: Dalton, Greyson, Valerie and Gabriel. She was predeceased by her daughter, Valerie Coats Philyaw (Rick).
A celebration of life for Kathleen will be held at a later date.
