
COLUMBIA – Mrs. Kathryn Fetner Fulmer passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2016 after a brief illness. Born on February 21, 1926 in Columbia, South Carolina, she was the last surviving child of the late Henry T. and Iva Fetner. She was preceded in death by her sister Martha Fetner Wells. Services will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, August 19, 2016, in Boyce Chapel at First Baptist Church, Columbia with Reverend Dr. Wendell R. Estep and Reverend Dennis Banks officiating the service, followed by a short reception with the family in Ellis Hall. A private graveside service will follow in Elmwood Cemetery and Gardens. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is coordinating the funeral services for the family. Mrs. Fulmer was born in Columbia, and also lived in Savannah, Georgia where her father was with Southern Rail Road. At a young age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and being a Christian was always the cornerstone of her daily living. She graduated from Winthrop College in 1948. She married Allan E. Fulmer, Sr. on November 5th, 1949. She was an active and dedicated member of Columbia’s First Baptist Church. She was a member of the Joy of Living/Baraca Sunday School Class, Women’s Missionary Union and taught Sunday School for years. She was also a member of the Columbia Garden Club, the Columbia Women’s Club and The Legal Auxiliary. She loved gardening, reading her Bible and sharing God’s word. Truly a gentle, gracious, but firm southern lady she lived her life in such a way that others could see Jesus in her. Mrs. Fulmer did not hesitate to put others first and instilled compassion, faith and a strong sense of what was right in her children, grandchildren and all those that crossed her path. Surviving are her children, Allan E. Fulmer, Jr. (Julie) of Columbia and Beth Fulmer Evers (Tom) of Pomaria. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years (Allan E. Fulmer, Sr.) and her daughter, Kathy Fulmer Helms and her son-in-law, Craig Helms and son, Henry Wayne Fulmer; also survived by his grandchildren, Winston Helms (Leigh) of Charleston, Katie Williamson, Marcie H. Wilson (Victor) of Atlanta, A. Bennett Evers (Mary Kendrick) of Columbia, and Butler Evers of New York City; great-grandchildren, Bryce Williamson, Katie Claire Helms, Jake Allan Helms; niece Stephanie Wells Mungo and nephew William “Dickie” Wells.
