Kathryn Ede McAdory passed away January 12, 2020. She was 41 years old. Katy was born on February 18, 1978 to her loving parents, Thomas and Kathryn Ede in Akron, OH.

In the summer of 1983, the Ede Family moved to Isle of Palms, SC. Katy was enrolled as a kindergartener at Sullivan’s Island Elementary School where she wasted no time leaving an impression on every single person she met. Katy attended Laing Middle School, graduated from Wando High School and studied art at the University of South Carolina. She moved to Columbia, SC in 2000 where she and her husband Dave raised three strong and beautiful children. If you have met any of these kids, you would know that she did her job.

Katy seemed to know everyone. She was gregarious, strong-headed and always had something to say. Her love for her family and people close to her was genuine, infectious and quite remarkable. She adored her children immensely and showed that same love to her nieces and nephew. They sure do love their Aunt Katy.

Katy is survived by her amazing husband of fifteen years, David McAdory and their three amazing kids, Kalie Jane Mathis (Jeff Mathis), David McKinney McAdory and Collins Elliott McAdory. But, we like to call them Kalie, Mac and Coco! She is also survived by her parents, Tom and Kate Ede; her siblings, Tony Ede (Helen), Aaron Ede, Ellie Ede Wall (Brandon); and her wonderful nieces and nephew, Gracie, Jake and Lauren. Katy leaves behind countless other family members and close friends.

A service will be held for Katy at 2:00 p.m. Saturday January 18, 2020 at Dunbar Funeral Home, 3926 Devine St., Columbia, SC 20205. Immediately following the service, friends and family are invited to gather at Bar None in Five Points at 4:00 p.m. Hugs are required. Smiles are mandatory. Good stories are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Epworth Children’s Home, P. O. Box 50466, Columbia, SC 29205 or online at epworthchildrenshome.org.

The family asks that when you think of Katy, to perform a simple act of kindness while you have her on your mind. Katy would be very touched by that.

Please keep Dave and the kids in your daily prayers as this difficult new chapter in their lives unfolds.

I am so very sorry for your great loss. I did not know Katy directly, as I was a a year or two behind her at Wando when she was wrapping up her time there. I can tell you this, though. When I saw her photo on a former classmate's FB pg, I stopped. I immediately recognized her smile and the energy that can be felt in her photo. Surely, it is an energy that only she can emit all the way thru a computer screen. I remember seeing her almost bouncing thru the halls of Wando, smiling, greeting everyone and wishing I could be like her, wondering who she was. It seems she was one of the most lovely people our world was graced to know.

Tom and Kate....I could sit in front of this screen for a million years trying to come up with a message of comfort as it's prompting me to do. Seems impossible. I've been thinking about you three or four times a day since I got the news, and maybe that's all there is to say...I'm thinking about you and am so very sorry. I'm sure that Katy was as incredible a woman as you've described. Take care of yourselves.
Love...Sally

Katy was an instant friend. She was a giver and filled with unconditional love. There was never a dull moment and always lots of laughter. Her love for her family was FIERCE. While I know that Katy is now absolutely at peace, I cannot help but ache for those she left behind. For the grandbabies she won't hold and for the life events she will miss on Earth. It just doesn't seem fair. She's still needed.

Her infectious laughter and open heart, her spirit and generousity, her sharp wit and rugged determination—-Katy had a soulful ability to connect to others. Like a sea lion gliding effortlessly through deep water or joyfully leaping off rocks in the sunshine her adaptable magical presence always touched heart. There are no words to express how hard this loss must be for you. My heart aches with sympathy along with an abiding appreciation for a life well lived. Swim with sea angels and selkies now Katy. You will be so missed. 😢🌹

My name is Jenny (Phillips) Whittle. My parents, Charles and Mabel loved the Ede family when they were neighbors back in Baytree. I know my brother, Andy adored both Katy and Ellie. I am confident that heaven gained another angel when she passed. I am lifting you all up in prayer!
