A visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 11th, 2022 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Funeral services will be at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, on Friday, August 12th, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. followed by a graveside service at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Lathene, born in Rock Hill, SC, in 1927, was a daughter of Lloyd Evans Stogner and Thelma Ilene Morgan Stogner. She was a lifelong resident of Columbia. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Edens Food stores during WWII. She retired from the University of South Carolina Registrar Office.
She was a Volunteer for Vacation Bible School, Sunday and Wednesday night Church dinners and kept the nursery at Calvary Baptist Church. She served as Den mother at The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. She volunteered for the PTA at Rosewood Elementary, and for years counted lunch money and checked every child’s eyes and weight!
Her pastimes with friends included playing Canasta, watching soap operas and doing crafts. She attended all USC Football games and was a huge USC Basketball fan. Some of her most cherished times were traveling with her sister in law and friends. She especially loved the beach. She received a Widow’s Pin from the Shandon Masonic Lodge, where her late husband was a Mason.
She was known as being the sweetest person that people knew. She was famous for her sweet tea, brown rice and pound cakes! She was proudest of her children, her 2 grand daughters and her great grandson.
She is predeceased by her husband, Jack William McLemore, Sr. in 1974. She is survived by her son Jack William McLemore, Jr. (Kay), her daughter Linda Crocker (Phillip), granddaughters Amanda McLemore (Brandon), Ashley Crocker and great grandson Landon. Also surviving are her sister Janice DiMaria and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Mary Elizabeth Black, and her brothers Havelyn Lloyd Stogner, Pete Small and Andre Small.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Camp Hope.
