Laura was born in Columbia on January 25, 1966 to Tommie Franklin Brant and Ann Marjorie (Wooten) Brant. She graduated from Spring Valley High School, and then attended and graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. After working for Governor Campbell’s office, she began a career in state government. She was employed for fourteen years at the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation in the state’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). She took ten years off to rear three sons, obtained a certificate in Health Information Technology, then returned to work for the state’s Department of Mental Health as a Health Information Specialist.
Laura is survived by her adult children: Jacob Brant Lenski; Joseph Phillip Lenski; and Michael Thomas Lenski. Also surviving are her two brothers: Russell Franklin Brant of New York City; and Thomas Jeffrey Brant of Columbia, South Carolina. She was predeceased by her parents, and her baby brother, Richard Lee Brant.
Laura was a devoted mother, and she loved her three boys more than anything in the world. She was an avid skydiver with over 500 jumps, including three into the University of South Carolina football stadium during halftime shows. She was the best cook in town, and she loved to listen to classic rock and big-hair bands from the ‘80s. She had beautiful red hair that flew in the breeze when she went skydiving. She was happiest during summer beach trips with her boys and family. She was funny, smart, and a good friend to all who knew her, including her parrot, Horus, and her dog, Dory. Her time on this earth was far too short.
