

COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Sgt. Maj. Lewis Clay Miller, U.S. Army (Ret), 89, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Crescent Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Miller died Monday, January 5, 2015. Born in Fairmont, W.Va., he was a son of the late Arthur Gordon Miller and Gertrude L. Rodgers Miller. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer 2nd Class from 1943 until 1946; the National Guard from 1946 until 1950; he then joined the U.S. Army in 1951 and retired in 1969 as a Sergeant Major. Mr. Miller also retired from the South Carolina National Bank as a Vice President and Trust Officer. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus; an avid civilian pilot; and enjoyed his second home on Lake Wateree. Surviving are his son, Brian L. Miller (Mandy) of Columbia; daughter, Cindy Miller Rylant (Bruce) of Lexington; grandchildren, John Snelgrove (Alma), Jessica Spivey (David), Mike Snelgrove, Hayley Miller and Max Miller; great-grandchildren, Parker Spivey and Tori Spivey. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth Eileen Bischof Miller; brothers, Myron Sidney Miller and Gordon Miller.
