Linda was born August 24, 1944 in Charleston, South Carolina to Jefferson Douglas and Estelle Smith Boulware. Soon after she was born the family made Columbia their home. She was a graduate of Dreher High School and was a recipient of a Bachelors of Art from the University of South Carolina. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert Gill Steele, a great man, and they were married until his death in 1987. She majored in Elementary Education and was a school teacher in Hawaii until her husband became ill and they moved to Columbia, SC.
On Valentine’s Day in 1992, she married Raymond Greer Collison, another great man, and lover of The Lord. She and Ray enjoyed their church, their Sunday School Class, traveling, their children, and grandchildren, entertaining family and celebrating Christmas.
Linda was dedicated to her church and enjoyed singing in the choir. Music was a huge part of her life, whether she was listening, playing both the piano and organ, or singing. To this day, her voice resonated amongst the entire church, and she will never be forgotten by those that were blessed to hear her sing.
She will be remembered as the elegant southern lady who was the consummate entertainer and hostess. Linda possessed a true servant’s heart, she was known for her kindness to others and was truly a beautiful person inside and out, who loved and served The Lord.
In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her husbands, Robert Gill Steele and Raymond Greer Collison.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jennifer S. Vanderslice and husband Mark, Christopher K. Steele, Kenneth R. Collison, Karen A. Collison; two grandchildren, Scottlyn Kate Vanderslice, Dylan Brielle Vanderslice; and a brother, W. Douglas Boulware.
Flowers are greatly appreciated as well as memorial donations in Linda’s honor may be made to the Music Ministry at Spring Valley Baptist Church.
