COLUMBIA, SC - Lloyd Dearborn Wells passed away peacefully on May 4, 2021. Born in Amherst, VA on April 5, 1930 to Gordon Jones Dearborn and Virginia Lloyd Dearborn, she was a direct descendent of William and Mary Randolph. Born Mary Lloyd Dearborn, she was a tomboy growing up and went by Lloyd. No offense to Mary’s, but she just didn’t want to be a Mary. She and her sister married two men who were childhood friends and neighbors from Farmington in Charlottesville, VA. This led to numerous family vacations from Nags Head to Pawleys Island, Vero Beach, the Cayman Islands and every historical site in between.
She married Richard Marshall Wells in her hometown of Amherst on August 21, 1954. They were married for 58 years before he passed away in 2012. Lloyd is survived by her three children: Richard Swain Wells of Columbia, SC, Christopher Gordon Wells of Cashiers, NC, Courtney Wells Taliaferro of Leesburg, VA, and her son in law, William Norborne Taliaferro. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Marshall Myers Taliaferro, Meriwether Dearborn Taliaferro, and Pressley Anne Wells; and a great-grandchild, Anne Wells Taliaferro.
A burial service to lay Lloyd and Richard to rest in Amherst, VA will be held later this spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pawmetto Lifeline at pawmettolifeline.org or Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Parkway, Columbia, SC 29212.
Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Memories may be shared at www.dunbarfunerals.com
