COLUMBIA – Lucretia Ann Mason, 58, went to be with the Lord June 21, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Lou was born July 15, 1961 in St. Louis, MO to Virgil and Elsie Kilgore Leonard. She attended New Albany High School and Northeast Mississippi Junior College. She married the love of her life, Randy Mason, on March 15, 1990 and together, they raised two beautiful children, Jennifer and William. More recently, she became LuLu to three loving grandchildren, Mason, Ben, and Ellie. Family was everything to her and this included her “Fox Family” from Dutch Fork Middle School, where she was the beloved secretary.

Lou touched the lives of everyone she met with her selfless love, kindness, and spunk. She found such joy in making other people happy and lived each day to put a smile on everyone’s face. She sought joy in everything she did and was truly a ray of sunshine. She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Randy Mason; her daughter and son in law, Jennifer and William Hicks; her son, William Mason; her grandchildren, Mason, Benjamin, and Eloise Hicks; her mother, Elsie Leonard; her brother, David Leonard (Melanie); her sister, Carmen Wilkerson (Brian); and 16 nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2020 from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. In honor of Lou’s fun spirit, the family asks for those attending the celebration to dress casually and comfortably. Memorial contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation - bcrf.org

Love you, always and forever.

To the Mason family,
My deepest condolences. I worked with Lu for 4 years at DFMS. She was always smiling, always eager to help, always knew what to do. Beyond that, she radiated a joy that was infectious. Because of COVID-19 and my husband being at high risk, I cannot attend today's celebration, but I am with you in spirit. Be assured of my prayers for you, especially that you are comforted by many happy memories of a beautiful woman (inside and out). She will be greatly missed and long remembered.

When I think of Lou, I think of her smile and even though our time together was brief she treated me like a welcomed and long time friend. Through the years, Peter has told me of the happy times of the wonderful children and grandchildren. He as also told me of the difficult health problems. The one thing that I have seen through these years is evidence of a deep and abiding love that is so rare. I know your loss is so great now that any words I can share are not enough. I am so sorry for your loss and am praying for you all.

Lu was one of the best gymnastics moms at Columbia Gymnastics Academy. She was always so supportive and kind. I looked up to her as a young adult as the type of mom that I wanted to be one day. I will never forget her laugh and smile. My prayers go out to the family.

As Jen’s gymnastics coach, I can tell you that Lu was as close to perfect as a parent could be. I was just beginning parenthood back then and I remember always watching other (more experienced) moms. I always kept my eye on Lu and watched how she handled herself. I truly respected her and the loving and supportive mother that she was. Many years have passed since then and only through social media, I have watched the joy she has had being a LuLu. I imagine she was close to perfect at doing that also. Her and Jen will always be dear to my heart. I know she will be missed so much because she was so special. Praying for this sweet family! ❤️

Remember her as being just as beautiful on the inside as on the outside during high school. She is remembered fondly. Prayers for peace and comfort for her family.

I left DFMS a few years ago... But will never forget the banter Lu and I had about football. I am a Gamecock so she had a lot of material for me on Mondays. Love to the family and I am so sorry for your loss.
❤️🙏🏼
