

COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Lucy McElveen Lewis, 82, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Columbia United Methodist Church, formerly Main Street UMC, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:15 p.m. prior to the service at the church sanctuary.
Ms. Lewis died Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Born in Sumter, SC, she was a daughter of the late Jacob Carlisle McElveen and Ada McCoy McElveen. She was a graduate of Maywood High School in Sumter, SC, Wingate University, and Columbia Commercial College. Lucy worked for the South Carolina Department of Mental Health and retired after 33 years of service. A very active member at Main Street UMC for 50 years, she loved singing in the choir, and helping with weddings and funerals. She was an avid Gamecock fan who held season tickets for many years. In her spare time, she enjoyed singing and painting.
Surviving are her sister, Margaret McElveen of Columbia, SC, and numerous cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Lyle McElveen.
The family would like to thank Rev. Ashley McCoy-Bruce and Rev. Kermit Moss as well as all the loving, attentive members of the church, Prisma Health Baptist Hospital, and Forest Lake Manor for their compassionate care.
