
COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Margaret Fanning Durham, 93, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20, 2016, in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mrs. Durham died Friday, December 16, 2016. Born in Augusta, Ga., she was a daughter of the late Harry C. and Bess Harris Fanning. A graduate of Dreher High School and the University of South Carolina, she worked for the U.S. Public Health Service in the Malaria Research Laboratory. She served on the board of the Mid-Carolina Mental Health Association, receiving its Outstanding Service Award and served two terms as secretary of the South Carolina Mental Health Association. In addition, she served on the South Carolina Department of Mental Health State Plan Advisory Council, the board of Three Rivers Health Systems Agency and the Council of Elder Affairs. She was a member and past regent of the Fort Congaree Chapter, Daughters of American Colonists and the South Carolina Huguenot Society. She was named Distinguished Daughter by the National Society DAC in 1990. An active member of First Presbyterian Church, she served on the WOC Visitation Committee. She received honorary life membership at First Presbyterian Church and the Gold Angel Award. She is survived by her son, Richard F. Durham (Sharon); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William D. Durham; a son, Andrew D. Durham; and a sister, Lib F. Cleckley.
