

Margaret was born in Allendale County, South Carolina, on October 8, 1926, to Bertha and Perry Brown.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Clyde, J.D., and Chancel; sisters, Belle Lemons and Hilma Binkley; and her loving husband of 63 years, T. Carroll Smith. Margaret was lovingly referred to as “Sister” by her siblings.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her three devoted daughters, Peggy Shealy, Debbie (Bobby) Probst, and Terri (Phil) Klugh; loving grandchildren, Greg (Heidi) Shealy, Chrissey (Bill) Hutto, Emily (Chip) Betcher, Elizabeth (Martin) Gasque, Heather (Mark) Salvaggio, and Michael Klugh; and her adoring great-grandchildren, Charles, Campbell (Emma), Carolyne Shealy, Scott Hutto, Lauryn Hutto, Jason Hutto, Sutton Betcher, Gresham Betcher, Griffin Gasque, Apolline Salvaggio, and Leon Salvaggio.
Mrs. Smith was a lifelong member of Brookland United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Loyal Workers Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed serving with the Loaves & Fishes Ministry and helped start a Prayer Shawl Ministry at the church.
Margaret enjoyed her work at the Santee Shoppe with Joan Lewis for 23 years. She especially loved floral design, creating beautiful wreaths and arrangements. She loved using her hands to create through sewing and crochet.
Margaret and her lifelong best friend, Muriel Dantzler, enjoyed visiting shut-ins, canning, and traveling together.
A private family graveside service for Mrs. Smith will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
