Marianne E. deWerdt

She was a former resident of Whitten Village during the early 70s until she came home to live with her mother until 1993 when she moved in permanently at the Lowman Home.

Marianne participated in the Special Olympics for several years and won multiple awards. When she was able, she volunteered at the Lowman home to help other residents. She was also a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.

Marianne had many interests and hobbies throughout her life. When she was younger, she enjoyed playing basketball and taking family vacations to the beach. She loved watching classic TV shows and especially her cartoons. Anyone who knew Marianne knew how much she enjoyed watching all the classics from the Flintstones, the Jetsons, Scooby Doo, Looney Tunes, to Gilligan’s Island Gun Smoke, and the Beverly Hillbillies. She also loved her college sports and had an equal passion for her Gamecocks. Marianne enjoyed watching NASCAR for many years and she enjoyed listening to country music. She loved animals too, especially dogs, and she would have taken everyone’s pets if she could have. She also was very talented in crafts and loved making ceramics, hook and latch style rugs and puzzles to name a few.

Marianne was always happy and she lit up the room wherever she went. Her happiness was contagious and she brought joy to everyone around her. She had a true passion for remembering the past, and she had a remarkable memory. It was always a pleasure to listen to her stories and you could feel how happy it made her remembering all her loved ones, and she could tell it in a way that transported you there with her. She had a great sense of humor and filled every visit with laughter.

Surviving are her brothers, John H. deWerdt and Thomas L. deWerdt; her many nieces and nephews; and grandnieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Peter and Michael deWerdt.

The family wishes to thank Don C, Pastor Jane, friends and staff at the Lowman Home for taking care of Marianne for so many years, and the ICU staff for taking care of Marianne in her final hours.

Services arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced. The Celebration of Life service will be very casual. We are requesting that those in attendance wear your favorite cartoon, classic tv series, or band T-shirts and shorts.
