Marion Keith “Bubba” Grimsley, Jr. entered into his eternal rest on Friday, August 30, 2019 in Columbia, SC at the age of 72.

Bubba was born to Marion Keith Grimsley, Sr. and Evelyn Hickey Grimsley of Florence, SC on August 20, 1947. He was a graduate of McClenaghan High School (class of 1967) in Florence, SC, and Rhema Bible Training Institute (1980) in Broken Arrow, OK, and remained a member of the Rhema Ministerial Association International. Bubba married Pamela Dale Dellinger on August 2, 1969 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Florence, SC. They had two children together: Kerri Grimsley (Roberts) in 1977, and Matthew Grimsley in 1980.

Shortly after Bubba’s conversion to Christ on December 7, 1969, he sensed a call to ministry and gave the rest of his life to this calling. He founded Bubba Grimsley Ministries Inc. in 1981 with a focus on missions and evangelism. Bubba served at Nicky Cruz’s ministry headquarters in Raleigh, NC, and was the founder and director of the Nicky Cruz Outreach Center in Florence, SC, a faith-based residential rehabilitation center for those struggling with drug and alcohol addictions. Bubba went on to become the founding pastor of Florence Christian Fellowship in Florence, SC in 1980, to serve as the pastor of Faith Fellowship Church in Morehead City, NC starting in 1986, and to serve as the pastor of East Marion Pentecostal Holiness Church in Marion, SC in the early 90’s.

Throughout these years, Bubba began traveling internationally to preach the gospel, which became the focus of his later years of ministry. He has ministered in twenty-five different countries on four different continents, and lived for a period of time in Nicaragua.

Bubba is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Hickey Grimsley, and younger brother, Thomas Edward Grimsley on December 26, 1959, his father, Marion Keith Grimsley, Sr. on September 9, 2001, his step-mother Catherine Reed Grimsley on March 18, 2009, and his brother-in-law VJ Schofield on December 29, 2018. Bubba is survived by his daughter Kerri Grimsley Roberts (Brent) of Columbia, SC, his son Matthew Grimsley (April) of Madison, WI, his eight grandchildren: Caleb (18), Gracyn (16), Thomas (16), Maddie (12) and Ellie (10) Roberts, and Jackson (13), Olivia (11), and Norah (6) Grimsley, and his siblings Becky Grimsley Schofield (VJ) of Atlanta, GA, Betty Sue Readling (Rodney) of Davidson, NC, and Dr. Michael E. Reed (Carolyn) of Columbia, SC.

Bubba loved people, shooting pool, ribeye steaks, good stories, bad jokes, and black coffee all day long. He loved his church family at International Family Church, and his neighbors at the Finlay House. Most of all he loved his family, and preaching the Word of God and seeing people’s lives transformed by the power of the gospel.

A celebration of Bubba’s life will be held on Friday, September 6, 2019 at Dunbar Funeral Home (3926 Devine St, Columbia, SC 29205) at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 p.m.

A second memorial for friends at the Finlay House will be held on Saturday, September 7 at 2:00 pm in Townsend Hall.

We were both so sorry to hear of Bubba’s passing. Even though we know he’s gone to be with Jesus, which is far better for him, he is such a loss to those of us who are left behind, and so we would like to offer our sympathy to all of his family and friends. We have so many great memories of all the things we did with Bubba when we were all living in Managua, Nicaragua. He helped us in the work we were doing with children at risk (he even baptized some of them!), and he made sure we had plenty of down time too, by taking us out for meals or to play pool. He was always so kind and generous. We had so much fun together, and we especially loved hearing all of his funny stories. Bubba was an absolute legend, and we’ll miss him, but glad we’ll meet him again someday…

I went to Rhema Bible Training Center with Bubba in 1979-1980. Our paths crossed over and over since then. Bubba took me on a mission trip to Nicaragua a few years ago. I will miss my dear friend. He made this world a more graceful place. I look forward to seeing him again soon. I will never eat a big steak or pass a Starbucks without thinking of him. May the joy and peace of our Lord rise up in the souls of his family.

Bubba visited us almost daily at Columbus County Airport when he lived in Columbus County. It was a pleasure to get to know him. He was a most memorable gentleman. He often entertained us by sharing Biblical knowledge as well as stories of his adventures in flying. Our sincere condolences to all of Bubba's family and many friends. The world has lost a kind, unique individual. Memories of him shall always be treasured.

Bubba was always someone ready to laugh with you or hold you while you cried! But my fondest memory of Bubba is he was ALWAYS ready to pray with you about anything and share Jesus with you!

When I heard that Pastor Bubba had went on to be with the Lord, my heart was saddened and then I had a flashback of the last time I was with him in our Life Group at IFC. Our group had prayed with him, as we were leaving out he was standing in the doorway with a big smile on his face and we gave each other a high five. I will forever remember that smile I saw on his face. Praying his family strength and peace during this time.

It’s October 1989 a Brother had introduced me to Bubba that spring and I’d break bread with the Brother several times a month, at the Western Sizzling steak house in Florence, S.C. Whose parking lot was just big enough to park my eighteen wheeler in. There was a Hurricane stalled out off of Myrtle Beach that the weather Channel was all excited about. On a Saturday morning I rode with him down there and he walked out into the water Rebuking that storm,”I live here! You’re Not coming here! In The Name Of Jesus! I was up and on the road headed for Los Angeles before daybreak...The Media was gooing about the storm turning away from Myrtle Beach.... It made landfall on the Outer Banks Of NC Monday. Thank You. My dear Brother! . . That Bible Lesson has kept me and my neighborhood safe for Forty Years! lol! 😎❤️

Dear Family-

We are so sad to hear about our friend, Bubba, passing away. We know he is with Jesus, and happier than ever, but we miss him! He felt like a first cousin, someone you had known all your life.

I’ll miss him so much. His big smile, that deep voice and his love for encouraging us in the Lord. He would often show up in the late morning, “ Mike, you won’t believe what happened last night at that church service in Los Torres!” We would sit down and listen to all that God had done.

Bubba loved his Bible. I admired that he would spend his mornings praying and reading, while enjoying coffee. He knew so many Scriptures and would use them to encourage us!

It was not unusual for Bubba to call me up and share a prophetic word for our family or a vision he had. We have passed through some dark times here, even life threatening. He would come over and pray, then share about angels God showed him all around our property! It was awesome.

Bubba was a man who’s feet touched the ground too. I know many of his life stories, struggles and trials. The one that echoes the most is when he got saved. Hands lifted, walking to the altar, hearing God’s voice, “I love you Bubba!”

Bubba is finally home now. He can rest! No more pain, no more worry. Jesus has done for him what he did for so many- he is healed and full of joy!

Becky, he loved you so much, so so much. Kerri and Matthew he was so proud of you. He talked about you all the time. He loved y’all so much!!!!!

Nicaragua lost a beloved friend.

With tears and a sad heart, Michael, Sue and family
