Marjorie B Slice
October 29, 1922 – May 2, 2018
COLUMBIA - Helen Marjorie "Margie" Brunson Slice died peacefully Wednesday, May 2, 2018.
Born October 29, 1922 in Gifford, SC into a large loving family of 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
Margie attended nursing school in Baltimore, Maryland and the University of South Carolina. She finished her nursing education at Columbia Hospital School of Nursing. She also worked in the Nurses Army Cadet Corps during World War II. She met the love of her life, a handsome Navy Lieutenant Jim "Claude" Slice at a train station in Columbia when they both were traveling to Florida where she was going to work as an RN. They were married for 51 years until Jim's death in 1999. Margie was a kind spirit with a wonderful sense of humor.
Margie retired in 1984 from Palmetto Richland Memorial Hospital as the Head Nurse for the Ambulatory Care Centers.
She was a charter member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was a member of the Mary Circle. Margie loved reminiscing about her life and told the most fascinating stories about growing up through almost a hundred years of history and inventions. She embraced and loved technology and enjoyed making greeting cards on her computer.
She read her Bible daily and knew she would one day join her loved ones in heaven. Margie was blessed with a large loving family and a close circle of friends.
She is survived by her son, Russell Slice (Libby); daughter, Barbara Slice; granddaughter, Lindsay Slice Hummers (Lucas); great-granddaughter, Charlotte Hummers; great-grandson, Bennett Hummers and many loving nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim Slice and her precious grandson, Rusty Slice, Jr. The family would like to thank her longtime loving caregivers, Debbie Cornelius, Viola Brown and Marie Asbill.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the narthex at the church. Burial will be private in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
