She was born in Laurens, SC to the late Letherenda and Harold Chaney who raised her to know God’s word and to walk in His ways. She grew up at First Baptist Church of Laurens where she was baptized. She graduated from Laurens High School in 1967 and attended Columbia College where she received a degree in Sociology. Mary Ann co-owned the Muzak franchise in Columbia for many years and was able to retire at any early age. Two of her favorite things in life were running and dancing (the shag), and she was good at both!
In addition to her husband Burns, she is survived by her sister Cathy Chaney of Columbia, sister-in-law Luetta Harris of Florence, SC, stepdaughter Anna Spence and her husband Josh, along with their children Hudson and Landry of Lexington. She cherished her Columbia College friends – Deidre, Sandy, Taddy, and Martha, with whom she kept in touch throughout the years.
The family would like to thank the staff at Forest Lake Manor and the caregivers at Agape Hospice Lexington for the love and care they showed Mary Ann during her brief stays there.
Dunbar Funeral Home is in charge. No immediate service is planned. A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
Donations may be made in her memory to Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
