

LYNCHBURG Mary J. Hobbs fell asleep in the LORD on Sunday, November 1, 2015. She was the oldest daughter of the late John Thomas and Carrie Green Johnson. She was born on December 4, 1926 in Florence, South Carolina. She was a life-long resident of Narrow Paved Road in Sumter County and a life-time member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She relocated to AGAPE Assisted Living, West Columbia in December 2013 to be closer to her sons. She was a graduate of Winthrop College and taught science and math for several years. She was the widow of Curtis Leslie Hobbs. She was predeceased by her husband and her brother, John Thomas “Tom” Johnson, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Emily (Parkin) Thomas; her sister-in- law, Frances Wheeler Johnson; her sons, Curtis Leslie Hobbs Jr. and his wife, Karen, and Mark Thomas Hobbs and his wife, Anna Maria. She also is survived by six grandchildren, Summer (Paul) Shealy, Sara (Sean) Honeywill, Evan (Mollie) Hobbs, John (Lauren) Hobbs, Valerie Hobbs and Thomas Hobbs; three great-grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mary’s passion was the love of any animal that needed food or any other assistance. Funeral service and visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Columbia. There will be a graveside service at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 8705 Woods Bay Road, Lynchburg, South Carolina at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday with visitation afterwards in the Church Community Center. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that memorials be made to Pawmetto Lifeline, 1275 Bower Parkway, Columbia, SC 29212 or a charity of one’s choice in memory of Mary J. Hobbs.
