COLUMBIA - Matthew Olan Crowe, 65, of Columbia, SC, passed away on June 28, 2026. Born on July 19, 1960, Matt, as he was known by many, was a cherished son, caring brother, loving father and grandfather.
Matt graduated from Irmo High school and received an Associate’s Degree from Midlands Technical College. A native South Carolinian, Matt was raised to be a tried and true University of South Carolina Gamecocks fan as well as an avid fisherman. He was happiest with a rod in his hand - biding his time waiting for a bite ideally with his son or friend either on a boat or standing on the bank of the lake.
Matt had a natural charm and infectious smile. He could, and often did, hold the attention of any room while recounting his most recent tales from work or recalling a fond memory from his childhood. Matt grew up as the middle child of three and had a special bond with his two sisters whom he loved dearly. Matt also had the privilege of being raised in the presence of his maternal grandparents (Mr. & Mrs. L.O. Caughman) who, alongside Matt’s mother, raised him to be a hard worker and know the Lord.
Matt spent many of his working years in the commercial trucking industry with both Budweiser and Waste Management. While a majority of his working days were spent in the cab of a truck, what he loved most about his career was connecting with the wide variety of folks he saw regularly along his work routes.
He is survived by his mother, Ann Caughman Crowe; his sister, Leigh DeLoach (Tom); his children, Devan Thompson (Ollie), Ashton Mooney (Joshua), and Carson Crowe; and his grandchildren, Josie, Hardy, Lily, Wyatt and Coleman. He was preceded in death by his father, Teddy Crowe and his older sister, Kimbley Crowe Hardin.
The family will hold a private memorial at a later date. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fishing For Good Foundation or Steadfast Recovery Ministries.
