Mattie Eloise Cook Champion

COLUMBIA - A graveside service for Mattie Eloise Cook Champion will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, January 21, 2021 in Elmwood Cemetery. The service will also be livestreamed on Dunbar Funeral Home – Devine’s Facebook page: www.facebook.com/DunbarDevine

Mrs. Champion died Thursday, January 14, 2021. Born in Ridgeway, SC, she was a daughter of the late James and Carrie Kennedy Cook. She was the widow of the late Herman Abrose Champion. Eloise was an active member of Sunday School and the Women of the Church. She was active in many civic affairs. Mrs. Champion was a member of Symphony League, Bay Blossom Garden Club, William Capers Chapter of DAR, and Robert Burns Society.

Surviving are her son, Thomas Manning Champion and Lisa McClure of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Allison Michelle Champion-Wescott and Emily Kathleen Champion; three great-grandchildren, Grayson Champion-Westcott, Jackson Champion-Westcott and Pierson Champion-Westcott.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Herman A. Champion, Jr., brothers, and sister, Rebecca Price.
