Mattie Green Suber

COLUMBIA - Mattie “Pat” Green Suber, 92, widow of John Thomas “Charlie” Suber, died at 1:35 a.m. on Friday, July 25, 2014. Mrs. Suber’s graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014, in Elmwood Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Born in the community of Shiloh in Sumter County, she was the youngest daughter of the late Meta Keels and William Wherry Green. She was a member of Incarnation Lutheran Church where she participated in the Esther Circle and the Couples Sunday School class. She was a graduate of Columbia College and a retired school teacher, having taught in the North Charleston School District and Richland District I in Columbia. She was a member of the Ariail Chapter of the Columbia College Alumnae Club. Surviving are her sons, John Thomas Suber Jr. (J. Alex Norris) of Columbia, Dr. Leitzsey Yon Suber (Kay) of Bellevue, Wash., Lt. Col. (USAF, Ret.) William Von Suber (Linda) of Columbia; daughter, Virginia Reid Suber of Columbia; sisters, Eloise Riel of Sumter, Francis Coker of Charleston; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by one grandson and one great-grandson. The family would like to thank the staff at Atria Forest Lake and Lighthouse Hospice Group for their kindness and compassion in caring for Mrs. Suber.
