Michael David Jones

Michael David Jones, 76, of West Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2025 in Houston, Texas. Michael was born December 31, 1948, in Yokohama, Japan. He was the son of the late James Nicholas Jones and the late Mildred Schaefer Jones.

Michael is survived by his wife, Betty Gaskin Jones, and their three children, Christopher Michael Jones (Angela), David Patrick Jones, and Amanda Mary Hyslop (Michael). He is survived by their six grandchildren, Amanda Jones, Tess Jones, Sean Jones, Lily Hyslop, Savannah Hyslop, and Stanford Hyslop. He is also survived by his brothers, James N. Jones (Wanda), Craig Jones (Louise), and Richard Jones (Brenda), and sisters-in-law Linda Jones and Terrie Jones. Michael was predeceased by his brothers, Edward Jones and Stephen Jones.

Michael was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Columbia. He was also a member and past president of the Legion of Mary.

Michael graduated from Dreher High School in 1966. He received his Bachelor of Education in 1970 and his Master of Education in 1973. He continued his education with Doctoral Studies at Michigan State University.

Michael was a dedicated educator for his entire career. He was a guidance counselor at Dreher High School and then guidance director at Aiken County Career Center, where he retired in 2009.

Michael loved the Church and his family. He enjoyed visiting with friends and family, doing projects around the house, and feeding the birds in the yard.

The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Thursday, February 27th at Dunbar Funeral Home, 3926 Devine Street, Columbia, SC, with visitation to follow until 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3600 Devine Street, Columbia, SC on Friday, February 28th at 11:00 am, followed by committal to the St. Joseph Catholic Church Columbarium.
