A graveside funeral service for Nancy Brown Cartiff, 82, will be held Thursday, September 24, 2026 at 11:00 am at the Hebrew Benevolent Society Cemetery, 714 Blanding St., Columbia, SC 29201. The service will be followed by a bereavement meal at the Tree of Life Congregation, 6719 N. Trenholm Rd., Columbia, SC 29206.
Mrs. Cartiff passed away peacefully in her sleep at Brooks-Howell Home on Monday, September 21, 2026 in Asheville, NC. Born in Ronceverte, WV on March 31, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Eustis Brown and Ellen Morgan Brown. Nancy graduated from Hinton High School and later studied nursing in Charleston, WV. She worked for many years as a registered nurse in hospitals, doctor’s offices, and private care, always bringing kindness and compassion to her caregiving.
Nancy married Neil Martin Cartiff on January 5, 1969, and the two were happily married for forty years until Neil passed away in 2009. They lived in Monroeville, PA and Irmo, SC for many years, making great friends through playing tennis and cards and through their involvement with Temple David (Monroeville) and Tree of Life Congregation (Columbia).
Nancy was a loving wife, wonderful mother, and supportive friend. Friends and family always knew they could rely on Nancy to help out if they needed something. She will be deeply missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Nancy leaves behind to cherish her memory, beloved daughter Marni Cartiff and daughter-in-law Leslie McLain of Asheville, NC, son Brian Cartiff of Irmo, SC, and cousin Sherry Shaffer of Summersville, WV, as well as many dear friends.
Nancy’s family would like to thank the amazing staff at Brooks-Howell Home for the care they have provided for her over the last several years.
