

COLUMBIA A funeral service to celebrate the life of Patricia “Pat” Lynn McAlister of Columbia will be held at noon Saturday, May 23, 2015, at Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, the Reverend Steve McCormick will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2015, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Memorials may be made to Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church, 1005 Asbury Road, Columbia, SC 29209. Pat went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at home surrounded by family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. On any given day, one could find Pat at an athletic event for her husband, daughters or grandchildren. She never missed a chance to watch them perform. She was born on June 13, 1941, in Columbia, S.C. A graduate of Dreher High School and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of South Carolina. Pat was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. Pat was an active member of Asbury Church, the United Methodist Women, Circle #5, Asbury Church Youth Group Leader, the Jonquil Garden Club, and the SC Debutante Ball. At the age of 50, she became the owner of Scribbles IV in Columbia where she worked with one of her daughters. Her smiling face greeted many brides over the years. Pat is survived by her husband of 51 years, Charles Wendell McAlister of Columbia; daughters, Virginia Lynn Smith (Terry Donald Sjostrom – fiancé), and Lee Anne Nidiffer (David Barry Nidiffer, Jr.) of Columbia; a sister, Ida Lynn Bennett of Charleston; grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Dasher (Wesley Vondene Dasher, III), David Barry Nidiffer III, Jaseph Theodore Nidiffer and Frances Anne Nidiffer of Columbia. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ferguson Lynn and sister, Virginia Caroline Lynn, predeceased Pat.
