Patricia Ann Wingard Boyer, 90, of Eastover, SC, passed away on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 in Charlotte, NC. She was born on July 29, 1931 in Lexington County, SC, to the late John Simon Wingard and Rosabelle Hendrix Wingard. Her loving husband, Jack Arthur Boyer, Sr. predeceased her.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Kimberly Boyer, MD, of Charlotte, NC, and a son, Jack Arthur Boyer, Jr. (Melanie Davis) of Eastover, SC. Pat’s three grandchildren, Cole Hayes (Megan Karney) of Charlotte, Callie Boyer Smith (Daniel) of Rock Hill, Rebecca Boyer McNitzky (Reed) of San Antonio, Texas, and a great granddaughter, Charlotte Lane “Lottie” Smith survive her. She is also predeceased by 3 sisters, and is survived by siblings Barbara Wingard Eleazer of Mobile, AL, Emmie Wingard Douglas, of Lexington, SC, and John Simon Wingard, Jr. of Lexington, SC, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Lexington High School (SC), Pat was named “most popular,” “best looking,” and “most flirtatious” senior superlatives, and played on the basketball team. She worked as a bookkeeper at Burton International Harvester and Carolina Forklifts for many years and later worked for Boyer’s Country Meat Market alongside her husband, Jack.
Pat enjoyed horseback riding as a young woman, and she was an excellent cook and baker. She was also proud to show off her yard every year when it was in bloom with hundreds of azaleas. Pat was a long-time member of Lebanon United Methodist Church in Eastover, SC, after transferring from Main Street United Methodist Church in Columbia, SC, where she and Jack attended after their marriage in 1954, and where she served as a Sunday School teacher and belonged to several Bible study groups.
A graveside service will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Park, 7100 Garners Ferry Rd, Columbia, SC 29209 on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 1:00 p.m.
For the past 12 years Pat fought a difficult battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and following the death of her husband, moved to Charlotte to be near her daughter. She never lost her smile, personality, and the willingness to “tell it like it is.”
The family would like to thank The Ivey, a daytime memory care center in Charlotte, and especially, Sabina and Tudor Bagarean at S & T Senior Care Homes for their unwavering care, compassion, and kindness.
