
Pauline (Polly) Dunbar Hall entered into Eternal Rest on June 16, 2026, at the age of 97. She was born on February 24, 1929, in Norfolk, Va., and was the daughter of Joseph Rountree Dunbar and Mary Saabye Dunbar She was predeceased by her husband, Fred I. Hall, Jr. of Columbia, S.C., and her grandson, Marcus James Hall.
She is survived by her four children, Frederick “Rick” I. Hall, III of Lexington, S.C. (Diane), Mary Anne Lister Downing of Katy, Texas (Sam), Alexander Dunbar “Alex” Hall of Chapin S.C., and Rebekah Rountree O’Hara (Kevin) of Columbia, S.C.; nine grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Polly Hall was first and foremost a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a faithful member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church in Columbia, S.C., where she served as a Sunday School teacher and in the infant nursery. She was also active in Bible studies and church circles.
Polly was also an avid college football and basketball fan and played high school basketball and loved swimming and water sports and spending time at her beloved Lake Murray.
She supported her husband’s career as a salesman of legal publications for the company now owned by Thomson Reuters, formerly Thomson West and Lawyers Cooperative Publishing Co., for over 30 years. She was an active member of local garden clubs, loved flower arranging, and shared her arrangements with many friends. She also loved music, singing, and dancing.
She will be remembered with love for her faith, devotion to family, generous spirit, and the beauty she brought into the lives of others.
A service of worship and remembrance for her life will be held at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, 6500 N. Trenholm Rd, Columbia, S.C. 29206, on Saturday, July 25th 11:00 a.m.
