COLUMBIA - Peggy M. Janicki passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 5th, at the age of 95. She was born in Columbia on August 5, 1926, the daughter of Mose Louis Manini Sr. and Mary Ann Somaini Manini.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jan Janicki; her parents; her two sisters, Gloria Manini of Columbia and Norma Watson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and brother, Mose Louis "Butch" Manini, Jr. of Lexington.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Janet Janicki of Columbia; a son, Jan Janicki, Jr. (wife, Dianne) of Cayce; a step-granddaughter; a great grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Peggy was proud to be a part of the "Greatest Generation", having lived through the depression and World War II. As she loved music and dancing, she delighted in telling stories of the times she and her sisters and friends would enjoy going to the USO, which at that time was located on Assembly Street, where they danced with the soldiers who were about to be deployed overseas to fight in the war.
Peggy was a long-time member of Main Street United Methodist Church in Columbia. As a young mother, she joined the A. B. Ferguson Sunday School Class and the church and her church friends became a big part of her personal and social life. She talked about how much fun they had cooking together and participating in church socials. Her church friends became some of her closest friends and she loved playing bridge and their bridge parties.
She loved sports, especially football and basketball, and could name all the players. Although, a gamecock at heart, she loved Dabo and became a huge fan.
The family would like to give special thanks to Interim Health Care Hospice for the loving care provided for their mother, and also to the caregivers of Daybreak.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Main Street United Methodist Church, 1830 Main St, Columbia, SC 29201.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2022 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery.
