

Perrie was born in Sumter, SC on August 4, 1941, the daughter of the late Pierre Hicks Fike and Zoe Kavanaugh Fike. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Harvey F. Dowd. Perrie attended Columbia High School and was valedictorian of her class. She was musically talented on the saxophone as well and won state competitions. Perrie and her sister would spend their summers off from school at The Farm House in Blowing Rock singing and playing music. Perrie went on to become the first female student at the College of Engineering at the University of South Carolina and ultimately graduated with a masters plus 30 hours towards a PhD in psychology. Perrie and her husband owned and operated Dowd Rentals and Construction in Columbia for over 50 years. They loved traveling, enjoying a leisurely breakfast at Lizard’s Thicket and spending time with their beloved dog, Star.
Perrie is survived by her younger sister, Dale Ziglar of Columbia, SC and niece, Robin Reeves (Stuart) of Mt Pleasant, SC and her furbaby, Star. The family would like to thank Still Hopes and Vee for taking such good care of Perrie during her time at Still Hopes. Also, Rand and Harvey for their assistance and support.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on July 13, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home at 3926 Devine St., Columbia, SC 29205. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association at https://diabetes.org/ways-to-give .
