

COLUMBIA - Ray Lyle Covington Jr., 71, died Sunday, December 20, 2020. Born June 16, 1949, at Providence Hospital in Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late Ray Lyle Covington Sr. and Mary Catherine Hughes Covington.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021, at the Covington residence, 6000 Rutledge Hill Road, Columbia, SC 29209. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.
Ray loved history and received his B.S. and M.A.T. degrees from the University of South Carolina. Ray was one of the first brokers to join Weichert Realtors not just in South Carolina but the entire nation. He had his broker's license in SC, NC and GA. He was the Broker-in-Charge and President of Weichert Realtors, Ray Covington, Inc. and Ray Covington Property Management, with two real estate office locations - Columbia and Lexington, SC.
Ray helped tens of thousands of families buy and sell homes throughout SC, NC and GA for over 40 yrs. He received the National Association of Realtors Emeritus Status Award in 2019, an award he was very proud of, signifying 40+ years of service as a Realtor to the surrounding communities. Ray was a mentor and teacher to all of his agents, both past and present.
He was loved by everyone in the greater Columbia area and beyond. Ray was and is very well known by countless individuals due to his hard work and stellar reputation in the Real Estate business. He was and always will be a real estate ROCK STAR with celebrity status known throughout Columbia. Even if you never met him, you definitely have heard of him and his reputation as a real estate MACHINE.
He has made, and will continue to do so, a substantial contribution to the real estate industry, and to each of us as friends and colleagues. He will be missed even more so by family members who knew him best and loved him most.
He was a member of The Institute of Luxury Home Marketing (ILHM) and The Million Dollar Guild Club (ILHM). Ray also served on the board of Pawmetto Lifeline. He had a tremendous love for animals.
Surviving are his fiancé, Hollie Davis; daughter-in-law, Kelli Covington; three sons, Michael Kent Covington, Carlton Lyle Covington, and Ray L. Covington III and stepsons, Lee Davis and Joe Davis; brothers, David Covington (Alma) and Leonard Covington (Cassia); granddaughters, Carson Elizabeth Covington, Katherine Ryan Covington and Scarlet Lynette Davis. He loved his family so very much.
