Columbia, SC - Raymond Richard Greiner died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, at the age of 94. He was surrounded by his children and loved ones. Ray was born on January 18, 1928 in Suffern, NY to George and Anna (Grywalski) Greiner. In 1944, Ray and his family moved to Port Jervis, NY where he finished high school and met his future wife. Ray proudly served in the United States Navy on the USS Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Upon his return from the Navy, Ray married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Rapann Gray in 1950. They started their life journey in Potsdam, NY as Ray earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson College. He spent his 30 year career as an engineer and plant manager at Union Carbide/Dow Industries.
Ray was loved by everyone who met him; he was known as a friendly, gentle, intelligent man. He was the king of Dad jokes, up to his final days. He showed interest in others’ lives and never had a bad word to say about anyone. Ray and Rapann made it a priority to return often to their hometown of Port Jervis, NY to visit family and cherished friends. In his retirement, Ray enjoyed hobbies including flipping houses, gardening, traveling and hanging out with his devoted dog, Arnie.
Above all, Ray was a family man. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rapann Gray Greiner; his parents; sister, Frances Delameter; and son-in-law, Kirkman O’Neal. Raymond is survived by five children, 11 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, brother-in-law (Billy Gray), and sister-in-law (Judy Gray). Ray will be dearly missed by his children: Colleen O’Neal; Mark Greiner (Karen); Kristen Betts (Jim); Kimberly Spivey (Andy); and Laurie Jaccard (Scott). His greatest hope was to leave a legacy of faith and kindness to be carried on by his family.
