

COLUMBIA - A Celebration of Life for the Rev. Raymond E. Harley II, 80, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 2015, in St. John’s Lutheran Church, Irmo with burial following in the church cemetery. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Rev. Harley died Monday, July 27, 2015. Born in Knoxville, Tenn., he was the son of the late Raymond E. Harley and Anna Louise Fox Harley. Pastor Harley received his Master’s of Divinity from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary and was a Lutheran minister for 46 years. Among the congregations he served were St. Paul’s and Ebenezer Lutheran Churches of Columbia, Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church of West Columbia and St. John’s Lutheran Church of Irmo. He was an accomplished musician and organist as well as a compassionate pastor. All his family and friends recognized his unique and enthusiastic ability to engage people in music, theater, school musical activities, as well as church work. He was an Army veteran and enjoyed his participation in the Irmo Navy. Surviving are his nephew, Michael Petree, and nieces, Anne and Debbie Petree, all of Knoxville, Tenn. He was predeceased by his wife, Iris Jo Harley, and a sister, Billie Petree. Memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1028 Saint Johns Road, Irmo, SC 29063.
