Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he was a son of the late Everett Olson and Gladys Dahl Olson. He dedicated 30 years of service to the US Marine Corps, retiring as a Master Sergeant. Following his military career, he worked with the US Postal Service. In his spare time, he enjoyed working in the yard, chopping wood, and spending time with his family by the fire pit.
Surviving are his wife, Diane Olson; daughter, Brandi Boniface; grandchildren, Kayla and Jacob; daughter-in-law, Kirsten Olson; son-in-law, Chucks Boniface; brothers, Ed Olson and Dean Olson; sister, Lorinda Yale; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Richard L. "Rick" Olson, Jr. and sister, Virginia Olson.
