Robert Kemp Anderson

March 6, 1949May 6, 2022
Columbia, SC – Robert Kemp Anderson (Robby), 73, passed away May 6, 2022. A native of Savannah, GA, Robby was born on March 6, 1949 to the late Norma Bryan and L.R. Anderson. By the time he had graduated from Jenkins High School in 1967, he had already begun to make his mark on the music scene in Savannah. Robby brought his vocal and keyboarding talents to bands The Swinging Dor’s and the Mach V; the band released a single later that year and quickly built a local following. A 1971 graduate of Armstrong State College, Robby then joined the Coast Guard and reported to OCS in Yorktown, Va. He served for 23 years, both on active duty and in the reserves. He retired as a Captain in 1995. Along with and following his military service, Robby enjoyed a 33-year-long career at the SC Department of Revenue. He retired in 2006 as manager of audits. Robby’s family life, however, was always his greatest accomplishment and source of pride. A devoted husband and father, he was actively involved in his daughters’ activities and celebrated every achievement. He was happiest knowing that his family was happy, and enjoyed nothing more than spending time with them at Edisto Beach, their favorite place. He was also an avid golfer and enjoyed playing for many years. In addition to his parents, Robby is predeceased by his daughter, Emily. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Anne Carter Anderson, daughter Ashley Blackwelder and son-in-law Carson Blackwelder, granddaughters Carter and Linley Blackwelder, sister Nancy Anderson Watson, brother Dr. L.M. (Mac) Anderson (Darlene), niece Shannon Green (Philip), nephew Andy Watson, niece Georgia Miller (Jared), and nephew Dr. Kemp Anderson (Spencer). Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, in Irmo. The family will receive visitors following the service. Per Robby’s wishes, his ashes will be scattered at Edisto Beach at a later date.
