Roberta Propst Jones

Born in Aiken, SC, she was the daughter of the late Robert Cooper Propst and Lucile Hunnicutt Propst. She was a graduate of Aiken High School and Columbia College. For over 40 years, she taught kindergarten and special education at Timmerman School. She was an active member of the South Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children, and was awarded the Master Teacher distinction by the South Carolina Independent Schools Association (SCISA). Cindy devoted her life to educating and caring for children, touching and shaping countless lives. Early childhood education was her passion. She worked in the classroom until the age of 77, retiring only when her health demanded.

Surviving are her daughter, Paige Gossett (Jeffrey) of Columbia, SC; son, James Robert Jones (Sheri) of Lawrenceville, GA; brother, Father Sergius Cooper Propst, O.P. of Oakland, CA; sister, Susan Propst Igel (Jeff) of North Augusta; beloved grandchildren, Jackson Keith Gossett of Columbia, Ainsley Cooper Gossett of Washington, D.C., and Anna Katherine Gossett of New York, NY; and numerous Propst and Hunnicutt cousins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by David B. Jones, her husband of nearly 58 years who was the love of her life, and her son, Keith David Jones.

The family wishes to thank The Palmettos of Parklane staff and residents, who assisted Cindy in making a home there for nearly three years, as well as the hospice and care team at Prisma Richland, who cared for Cindy and her family during her last days.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 16, 2026 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the funeral home. Entombment will be private at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Cindy’s many years of devoted caregiving for her beloved David, or to the Cindy Jones Scholarship Fund at Timmerman School.
