December 29, 1955 – January 6, 2021
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Robin Whaley of Columbia, SC, who was welcomed home to her Lord on January 6th, 2021. Robin is the daughter of the late Ms. Marion Whaley Moore, and is survived by her sister, Ms. Linda Moore of Columbia, SC, and her brother, Mr. Griffith Ingram Moore (Dawn) of Lexington SC, as well as a nephew, Justin Oakman Swindler of Atlanta, GA, a niece, Hannah Moore, and a nephew, Joshua Moore, both of Lexington, SC. Ms. Whaley is also survived by her uncle, Dr. Preston Agee Whaley (Betsy) of Bradenton, FL, and an aunt. Mrs. Debra Whaley Scott (Ronald) of Columbia, SC as well as numerous cousins, extended family and friends across the country. She is preceded in death by her beloved maternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Marion Leonard Whaley of Columbia, SC.
Robin was a graduate of Hammond Academy and a former Miss Hammond. She was a brilliant student and writer who moved to Charlotte to continue her education at Queens College. She ultimately graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Degree in Journalism. Seeking to utilize her degree and exercise her talents, Robin moved to New York City where she worked for Glamour Magazine as one of their youngest and highly-regarded editors. Missing family and the South, Robin returned back to South Carolina to work for WNOK and WACH-Fox 57. After she left the world of radio and TV, Robin retired to her writing, her love of all things family, and a fondness for music and the beauty of the written song. She will be remembered by her family and friends for her sweet spirit and temperament, her love of roses, a heart for the nieces and nephews she considered her own, an unwavering devotion to her grandmother, and a desire to always make sure her family was happy and smiling.
Due to COVID-19, the family will host a private memorial. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Alzheimer's Association, 140 Stoneridge Dr. #210, Columbia, SC 29210 and the National Alliance for Mental Illness, P. O. Box 1267, Columbia, SC 29202.
