The family of Roxane Rosemary Barnick celebrates her life as she passed on March 13, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones. Born to Thomas and Rosemary From on April 1, 1957 in Winchester, Va., Roxane’s life was a tapestry of family, light and love.
Roxane grew up in Keyser, W.V. and Richmond, Va., and graduated from West Virginia University with a masters in dietetics. She moved to Manning, S.C. in 1983 where she met her future husband, Vaughn Rex Barnick, MD, whom she married on September 24, 1988. Eventually, they moved back to Vaughn’s home town of Columbia, S.C., where they established Columbia Medical Associates. Roxane eventually changed her career to become the business manager of her husband’s internal medicine practice. Together, they raised two wonderful children, Carolyn and Rex.
Roxane was a devoted wife, mother and sister. While Roxane loved her work, she ultimately loved nothing more than spending time with her family and friends. Known by many for her caring nature, zest for life and passion for nature, but most of all she loved people. She had a personality that allowed people to immediately consider her a friend, of which she had many. Roxane could most often be found traveling around the world with her family, often times following her daughter to remote locations, bird watching, cooking, gardening and finding ways to ensure everyone around her was comforted and loved. Roxane will be profoundly missed, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire all who were blessed to know her.
Roxane is survived by her beloved husband, Vaughn Rex Barnick, MD; her favorite daughter, Carolyn Rosemary Barnick; and her cherished son, Vaughn Rex Barnick, Jr. and his wife, Gina. Roxane also leaves behind three family dogs who loved her dearly and brought her immense joy, Sir Elliott, Bernard and Winston. Roxane is also survived by her brother, Thomas From II, wife Leigha; and dear sisters Pamela Conlon, husband Tom Conlon, and Stephanie Bertram as well as many cousins, nephews and nieces.
A service to celebrate the life of Roxane will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Columbia, S.C. A private interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Roxane Barnick to Riverbanks Zoo & Garden.
