Ruth Heerwig Stafford

CHARLESTON - A funeral service for Ruth Heerwig Stafford, 85, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2022 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Columbia. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2022, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, Columbia.

Mrs. Stafford died Monday, March 21, 2022. Born in Willimantic, Conn., she was a daughter of the late Walter and Hilda Drager Heerwig. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and volunteered with Harvest Hope Food Bank and Providence Hospital Gift Shop.

A loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is survived by her children, William Stafford (Mia), Glenn Stafford (Sharon), Lori Smith (Don); grandchildren, Reagan Tarin (Joe), Bryce Stafford (Nicole), Brittany Nethercutt (Matt), Ryan Smith (Brooke); great-grandchildren, Malcolm, Carter, Margo, Owen, Jenna; brother, Donald Heerwig (Dorothy) and sister-in-law, Irmgard Heerwig. She was predeceased by her husband, John Donald Stafford.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roper Hospice Cottages in Mount Pleasant or the American Cancer Society.
