Sara Cook Andrews, 95, of Columbia, SC, lived a long, full life before peacefully going to God on Sunday, February 22, 2026. Born on December 15, 1930 in Kershaw, SC to Amos Soule and Christine Hilton Cook, Sara’s love, energy, and intellect will be remembered by her students, friends, and family.
Sara was a trailblazer for a woman of her generation. She graduated from Kershaw High School at age 16, then went on to earn a Chemistry degree from Columbia College, and a master’s degree from the University of South Carolina. She taught chemistry and physics at Wardlaw, Eau Claire, Lower Richland, Crayton, and A.C. Flora High School, where she was Head of the Science Department until her retirement in 1991.
While in college, Sara met the love of her life, Clemson student Laurens Andrews. They married on June 9, 1953, shortly after Laurens returned from serving in the Korean War. Their 65-year marriage was a true partnership during which they raised three children, cheered on their beloved Clemson Tigers, and spent summers at their Surfside Beach home from 1962 to 2017.
Sara lived her life with enthusiasm and purpose. A devoted Christian and longtime leader at Greenlawn Baptist Church, she was active in her community and always serving others. After moving to Still Hopes in 2021 she enjoyed making new friends and participating in the activities offered there.
Sara loved her family. She encouraged them and celebrated their achievements, and she made family gatherings special. She will be dearly missed.
Sara was predeceased by her loving husband, Laurens Ryan Andrews, Jr., and her brothers, Gene W. Cook, Bobby K. Cook and Dexter L. Cook. She is survived by her children L.
