She was born in High Point, NC to Lee Roy and Vivian Johnson Davis on July 19, 1932.
She received her Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina, and found great joy working with preschoolers throughout her career. She enjoyed sharing her teaching gifts with children of military families at Fort Jackson. In addition to her professional work as a teacher and parent educator, she volunteered for many years in the infant nursery at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, where she also served as a deacon and elder.
Sara was predeceased by her husband Dr. Paul Lovingood, to whom she was married for over 65 years, her sister Josie Shotts, and her brother Junius Davis. She is survived by her children Kevin Lovingood, Belinda Lennon (Doug), Vivian Lovingood, her grandson Roy Greene (Mary) and her great-grandchildren Jackson, Carolina, and Camden Greene. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Jim Shotts, and her sisters-in-law Anna Kate Pratt, Patsy Parker, and Ruth Lovingood.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at 10 a.m. at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3200 Trenholm Rd., Columbia, SC 29204. The family will receive friends after the service.
